Awan families have one of the strongest service traditions in Punjab, and a great many households have a serving or retired officer in them. That shapes the marriage conversation more than biradari does: postings move families every two or three years, and a bride marrying into a serving officer's household should understand that before, not after.

Where families are usually from. Chakwal, Jhelum, Attock, Talagang, Mianwali and the Salt Range, with a heavy presence in Rawalpindi and a long tradition of military service.

What the community tends to do. Army and Air Force, government service, teaching, and increasingly IT and overseas work in the Gulf.

Every Awan profile here shows education, profession, sect, family type, family class, parents’ occupations, siblings and what the member has written about the kind of household they are looking for. What it does not show is the photograph or the contact number, and those move only when that member taps accept.

Biradari alone is a blunt instrument. The families who match quickly combine it with sect, city, education level and profession, which turns a list of hundreds into a handful worth approaching.

A word on biradari and character. Shared biradari predicts shared customs around weddings and households. It predicts nothing at all about kindness, honesty or how a family treats a daughter-in-law. Families who lean on it as a proxy for character are regularly surprised, which is why the verification steps below still matter.

Questions families ask about Awan proposals

Do you have Awan profiles?

Yes. Awan is one of the biradaris listed on the site, and you can filter on it directly alongside sect, city, education and profession. Numbers change weekly as members join and matched members close their profiles, so rather than quote a figure that would be stale by the time you read it, register free and search for yourself.

Is anyone in the family serving?

If so, ask about postings. Cantonment life in Quetta, Kharian or Okara is a different marriage from settled life in Rawalpindi, and the family will know exactly what the next few years look like.

Can I search Awan profiles overseas as well as in Pakistan?

Yes, and most families do. Set the country filter to open and you will see Awan members settled in the UK, Canada, the Gulf, Europe and Australia alongside those at home. Many of the strongest matches on this site are between a settled household abroad and one in Pakistan.

Is marrying outside the biradari acceptable here?

That is entirely your family’s decision and we take no position on it. What we do is make the preference visible: biradari is an open field on every profile, so a family that wants to stay within Awan can filter for it, and a family that is willing to look wider simply does not.

What about photographs?

Locked, on every profile, until that member personally accepts a request. Many families here share none at all, and a profile without photographs is listed identically to any other.

Before you meet

None of this is adversarial. Both families are doing it, and doing it openly is faster and less awkward than finding out slowly through rumour.
